Best Value Review

Entelechy was commissioned by the London Borough of Lewisham to undertake a consultation of people with complex disabilities as part of its Best Value Review. The consultation, carried out by Entelechy staff and local volunteers focused on how the council's stated values were present in people's lives and aimed to give a snapshot of the day to day experience of people with complex learning disabilities. Entelechy produced a film/video to feed back the findings to the local authority. It was unusual for an arts company to lead on a piece of consultation and highlighted an enthusiasm to find new ways of listening to the views and experiences of people who have unconventional ways of communicating.

"The outcome...gave a true sense of both the positive and negative experiences of people within supported living and other service environments. This had had a significant impact, not just for us as commissioners, but also for those providing services to people with learning disabilities in the Borough."
Tom Bird, Service Development Manager, Lewisham Partnership
